Field Comm
« on: July 07, 2010, 10:00:51 PM »
Call me crazy, but it seems NY being as BIG as it is and busy with multi fires and unusual Rescue's on a daily basis, Why don't they run at LEAST 2 Field Comm Units?   They run 2 TSU's, Field Comm usually gets assigned on their job's as well. Was just wondering has this ever been brought up before. Thank's.

they used to run 2 back in the 70's but budget cuts hit. Also technically there is fc 1 and 2 but the sprinter is a back up and special events.

If memory serves, for the longest time (until the $$ cuts in the 70's) FC01 was @ 39 Engine and FC02 was @ 259 Engine.

Correct & at that time BN*45 was in with ENG*258.........both houses had walls with separate kitchens & separate housewatches at the time........i was in LAD*108 then & we interchanged with both LAD*128 & LAD*115 at different times.

As I remember, FC 1 covered Manhattan/Bronx.  FC 2 covered Queens/Bklyn/SI.  Responded on all-hands "doubtfull" or when special called.  They were staffed with two firefighters.

I could be wrong, but in the 70s I wasn't FC # 1 with E59/L30 in Harlem. I think I remember getting apicture of the rig from there.

Thank you. That's correct. It was Squad 1. In fact I remember an advertisement in magazines like Fire Engineering showing a picture with the Mack of Squad 1 outside of 59/30s qtrs. Anybody remember that or know the picture I'm talking about. It was a nice color ad. I don't even remember what they were advertizing though. It had to be in the early 70s.
