Anybody know what will happen Marine 1 'John D McKean' when she retires??

Would be great to see her up along side the USS Intrepid

That is a very good idea......i dont think it should be decomissioned or scrapped .....i really think the name should be added to one of the new boats to keep his memory alive.....he was a FireBoat Pilot who was killed on board in a steam explosion around 1956 i believe.....i knew his Son who was a FF in LAD*175 & LAD*120 then a LT in R*3.

Sorry to say, I think she had been sold.  In my eyes, she had been the Queen of the FDNY Fleet!

during my trip to nyc i have see a fire boat as been sale to make a restaurant

i don't know if is the boat you talking about

The Mckean is sitting next to the Firefighter in the bklyn navy yard.
The Mckean will be used as a backup to the backup which is the Smith,
For at least one or 2 yrs.
The firefighter is in the process of being turned over to a group of marine
restorationists, The boat is to become a floating and traveling museum.
