4. PROCEDURE
4.1 Upon identification of a patient who is a Snake Bite Center Candidate, members
shall:
4.1.1 Be especially careful of their own safety.
4.1.2 Treat the patient in accordance with applicable NYC REMAC and NYS patient
care protocols, including but not limited to, NYC REMAC BLS Protocol
414, Poisoning.
4.1.3 Transport the patient as quickly as possible from the scene, to ensure safety
of the patient and the crewmembers and expedite definitive care.
4.1.4 Consider and request the use of a Medevac, if appropriate.
4.1.5 In addition to a complete patient history, attempt to determine the following:
A. Type of snake
B. Description of the snake
C. Location of the snake
D. Time of bite
E. Location of fang marks or scratches
4.1.6 Advise the dispatcher of the transport to the Venomous Bite Center, and
request that a notification be made.
