If my fading memory serves me, wasn't there a small article in WNYF about the front piece changes around that time?

Who wrote the shield numbers on the pre-1959 single piece fronts? They look hand written, were they done by the members themselves?

Originally the Badge numbers on the Frontpieces were stamped on with paint but as they wore off they were re painted by the owner usually for Annual Inspection if needed.

Submitted by JK, here is a helmet from "Eye of the Storm", Brooklyn L 132;

They say "a picture is worth a thousand words".

In this case they could write a book.

^^^ The 132 Helmet belongs to RET 235/132 FF / FM Steve Schreck ....the pictures were sent to me by his Son Active FDNY FF Eric Schreck LAD*136 (formerly ENG*308) ...many on here have met Eric & his Dad at some of our Get Togethers .....Eric as many know spent an Enlistment in the US Navy then an Enlistment in the US Army & is now currently serving in the Army National Guard & is a Combat Medic with a high degree of Medical expertise.....an American Military record  to be Saluted especially on this Veterans Day....Eric is third Generation FDNY his Grandfather Steve's Dad was George Schreck RIP an ENG*290 Legend during the '60s & '70s & later a LT in ENG*224 (in between spending some time in BNs*60 & 35 w/Chief Ed Clancy Father of John LODD 12-31-95 RIP to all). .......interesting story about Eric Schreck's  Badge number he had requested his Fathers four digit FF Badge number which his Dad had in 132  but somehow the Badge Desk gave him his Father's Fire Marshall two digit Badge number.

Perhaps the first frontpiece you want to see at a job...or maybe the last you want to see...

Here is a clever Boston Captains frontpiece, looks like he "added" the second bugle to his former Lt frontpiece, notice the decal off-center. Very clever...that's why he was a Captain I suppose...

I'm smellin' something fishy here...five frontpieces all with same degree of "added saltiness", hard to make out fire department on top panel on all, same with bottom panel, collection by one owner....Check it out, fishy?
