Looks like it rekindled a few hours later. Fire was blowing out the 3rd floor
Is there really any such thing as a rekindle? I know the term has been used for decades, but more likely fire that was probably hidden in a void or hidden under debris.
Interesting, since amateur video segments showed no fire and minimal smoke as the fire was placed under control, and a company was assigned to a watch line.
Any reports of where and the extent of the so-called rekindle originated, and how it got to the point that the box had to be retransmitted?

Or, more common recently, is Lithium ion batteries re-igniting.

No idea, but this video (about 21-22 min in) shows an engine backing up the street and stretching a line

well, for it to actually in the traditional sense, "rekindle" / start smoldering and or open burning again ( on it's own ) there had to be some kind of hot spot left behind.

the above video at the 22:40 minute mark shows a smoke condition at the left top floor front window. Within 1 minute, heavy fire is showing out that window and soon after the entire front set of windows. I don't know if there was another e-device present, but it appears to have the same characteristics as a bank of Li-Ion batteries that hit their critical heat level and the interior jel coats all ignited and the pack erupted in a ball of flame.

There is place for Large Caliber Stream use in fire buildings, when the life hazard has been delt with and most especially when the building is LOST.
A Tower Ladder stream used for the correct amount of time would, most likely, have stopped the from reigniting/rekindling. Chicago F.D. sometimes calls it "Resetting the fire." After 50 years of Firefighting including 30 years with the F.D.N.Y. I know that we have had this type of situation happen sometimes before, all we can do is try to minimize the dangers. Capt. I would like to think that the units involved in the extinguishment initially, would have removed all lithium-ion batteries, etc. from the b'ldg., especially in the fire area. Meaning that without knowing otherwise, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt.

I believe all the initial units took up and only the hazmat units were on scene dealing with the batteries when it reignited. E274 (HazTec Engine) can be scene backing up and stretching the initial line after rekindle. I wonder what happened to the watchline Engine.

Imagine that, you're turning out for another Haztac run for batteries and end up stretching on a blowing fire.

Would using the deck gun in this situation even be a consideration?
