“We received a call this evening around 5 p.m. for a reported fire. We had a six minute response time to the scene. Units quickly went to work, we had a fire on the top floor of 4055 Carpenter Avenue. The fire quickly spread to the cockloft area, which is the space between the ceiling and the roof. Heavy fire conditions consumed the entire cockloft area. Our members did a tremendous job getting hose-lines in place quickly and getting to the seat of the fire. The fire spread to the adjoining building through that common space just expanding the problem. We went to a 4th alarm assignment to put this fire out, approximately 200 Fire and EMS personnel on the scene. We have 104 apartments in this building affected by the fire and many displaced residents. Right now we have American Red Cross and NYC Emergency Management on the scene assisting with finding shelter for the displaced residents. We also have NYC Buildings here to assess the structural stability of the building. At this time we have three Firefighter injuries and one injury to a civilian,” said FDNY Chief of Department John Hodgens from the scene of a 4-alarm fire at 4055 Carpenter Avenue in the Bronx."
