Vancouver FD rejects electric vehicles option.

According to the current issue of Fire Apparatus Journal the Vancouver FD has rejected the electric vehicle option as unsuitable when considering the purchase of 14 apparatus. Reasons given were they were deemed unsuitable for reliable emergency needs, they did not meet minimum specs for water pumping capacity at fires and costs were significantly higher.

l'm surprised they were '' allowed '' to reject them.

These pumpers will be built on a Spartan Metro Star MFD chassis with a 20” raised roof and a Cummins X12 500 HP engine powered an Allison 4000 EVS transmission. Featuring a Waterous CMU pump with a flow of 1,750 IGPM/7,000 LPM, a 400 IMP Gallon/1,800 Litre water tank, and a Waterous Aquis 6.0 foam system.

3 vehicles @ 5.7 million, wonder how much the electric ones were if the costs were listed as significantly higher?
