Years ago it was luck of the draw. Usually not, living in Queens and assigned to Staten Island. I lived in Queens and sent to Brownsville, my car pool buddy from proby school living in Queens went to Astoria Queens. Living upstate maybe the Bronx or Manhattan. My 24 years in Brownsville, I...

6/6/25 Queens All Hands Box 5197

I lived at 107Ave. and 107 St.. I attended the school dedication to Capt. Fowler on Tuesday, because my kids went there and I worked with Vinnies brother John. The school put on a nice show and FDNY presence was very good. I'm out of there 46 years which gave me a 20 year commute. I see a lot...

    New Rearmount order

I got on the job in 68. The rigs back then were plain and simple. Today the rigs are a work of art, they look beautiful. Now cars back in the 60's and early 70's were works of art and now they all look the same and are plain ugly.

FDNY FIREFIGHTERS MOVE VEHICLE BLOCKING FIREHOUSE

So who brings them to Manhattan. FDNY should have a hot line to have a unit, either PD or Traffic to tow vehicles such as this.

FDNY FIREFIGHTERS MOVE VEHICLE BLOCKING FIREHOUSE

Those guys look well equipped for that parking problem. Seems they have had that situation before. Did the city provide them with the wheel jacks or did it come out of the company commissary, like most of the things we have, commissary, used to buy.

    4-24-25...FF TIM KLEIN MEMORIAL MASS.

I reluctantly travel the Belt Pkwy but sometimes I have to when I travel out of state, I no longer take the Williamsburg Bridge and Holland Tunnel, and my son lives in Mill Basin. Last week I was on it at about 11 AM and they were repairing the guard rail at Pennsylvania Ave. with 2 lanes...

Do you remember these popular DJs in NYC

I don't remember Wolfman Jack here in NY. I thought he was a California Guy. My wife used to call in the Birthdays of me and the kids to Harry Harrison in the AM. So as I pull up to the Firehouse, Harry announces my Birthday. Later that morning the Babe says he heard on the radio today was my BD.

    4/7/25 Brooklyn 2nd Alarm Box 0870

Those Brownstones on MacDonough St. had the nicest wood work and most of them were well kept. Just watch out for the low window sills. Firefighting tactics in those type buildings was a little different than the norm.

    3/16/25 Brooklyn 2nd Alarm Box 0798

That few minutes for truck response has probably increased due to, speed bumps, 25 mph car traffic and more stop signs and traffic lights added to that area due to a population increase.

    ANOTHER WAR YEARS VET PASSES.

The War year ranks are thinning at an alarming rate. No one left to talk about the 30-40 run night tours, eating on the run and maybe a relocation thrown in for good measure and of course a good vacant building fire to keep firefighting skills up to par. In Brooklyn, early in the AM being on the...

    ANOTHER WAR YEARS VET PASSES.

I would see Chief Sal at the various breakfasts and would usually BS for a period of time reminiscing about the good old times . He never mentioned his son being a victim of 911. Another case in point as a retiree and going to as many funerals possible, I would hear a name and never associate...

    Fire Matrons

We had a matron in 233 on Hull St. and she lived in Glendale. She would take public transportation to get to the firehouse. One day she was mugged and no longer came to Quarters. Luckily I was in the military, so I knew how to make a bed with Hospital corners.
