No way. On the map they are certainly closer as the crow flies but 24/5 have 6th Ave. 4 lanes of traffic straight up. The avenues make a big difference in Manhattan
14th and 6th assignment has changed through the years
sq18 is very close but then after them depending on traffic 24/5 can shoot up 6th ave and beat 3&12 and E 14 in
E5 used to be extra engine there then got moved to 4th due but it can take forever to get across 14st
FSD rigs are usually exchanged when a rig will be out of service for a short time (a day or two) It comes with a packed hosebed and alot of other items regular spares dont carry. Makes it easier than stripping a rig completely for only a short time
nothing like climbing the aerial first due roof with everything, and then 2nd due roof just loads his stuff on the TL and gets brought up there like a gentleman lol
In the 80s that stretch of pleasant plains had a bunch of fires. I think all 3 houses where the shopping center is now went up within a year of each other, all fully involved, and the house where the rent a car is now had a good job.
Most jobs on staten island get the TAC and also the satellite with the all hands so you can technically have 6 engines on the first alarm without going to a 2nd with the TAC firefighter running around also
Usually once an extra engine and truck are called the dispatcher will transmit the all hands
sometimes also once the report is given of a second line being stretched a dispatcher will drop the hint "wanna go with the all hands?"
these days the all hands only gives you the satellite on top of...
