The Ahrens Fox marked 222 was originally 214s rig when they were on Herkimer St. but when 214 moved in with L111 on Halsey St. the fox could not fit in the narrow FH with the Truck in there so 222 & 214 swapped rigs.
I was working for Chubb & Sons Insurance Co. at 90 John St.I left work and went to E280 picked up my Auxiliary gear and walked to the site. The site was awesome and gruesome at the same time.
I remember as a young guy (12) going to both original firehouses and both were buff friendly.Eng 219 was only six blocks north of 280 and I picked up 280&132 Lunch at a sandwich shop on Washington Ave near Bergen St so to kill 30 mins went to both FH's
Chief I'm pretty sure I read way back that he owned the building, maybe sold it and rented from the new owner.I remember his offices was on the next block East of the FH, when he owned the building he moved the office into the building.
