Was on Webster Ave. and Saw 46/27 responding & 48/56 , Division 7 & Rescue 3 Responding & followed them & took pics but I only had my phone & i can't get my phone to upload them.

R3 went on the box, "as normally assigned", as the dispatcher said. Why is it normally assigned to that box?

When R3 was in its old quarters on 176th and off Park Ave, it was "normlly assigned" to any box where it was closer than the 1st due truck. There were only a handful where it was closer than L's 27, 33, 38 or 56. This box , 2997, was one of them.

Since its move to new quarters, R3 is no longer closer to 2997 than any of those truck companies. Is there a reason that it still responds on the box (not the 10-75) or is the system still dispatching R3 as being on 176th Street?

I believe the current Captain of R-3 has lobbied to add a few Boxes to R-3's 1st alarm district.

Ceiling collapsed on first-due engine; as it was relayed to me, 5 guys injured, some with  2nd degree leg burns, and one got burned on his face where his hood pulled back from his facepiece.

SKYLINE,

Who was first due, 75? I think I remember 42 and 46 out elsewhere when the box came in. Are the guys OK?

JSG,

Honorable intent by the Capt of R3 if true.

Anybody else with an idea as to why R3 on the box?

It was 75.  42 and 46 should have been first/second, but both were tied up with something else when the run came in.

While the injuries arent "serious" in the sense of physiologically life threatening, if it were my leg and it occurred in the situation this did, I suspect I might describe the injury differently.  It did get them sent to Cornell.

This is also a prime example of how bad the city's recent decision to reduce manning, and current intent to close companies, can get.  A top floor job, with the third due company getting in first, and making a 6 story stretch while riding understaffed?  Its questionably criminal, but absolutely malicious in intent.  These guys escaped a ceiling collapse underneath a cockloft fire with relatively minor burns.  They were f'ing lucky.

I was at this fire, if 46 is closed and 75 and 42 were out on another job, there would be no question in my mind how different this fire would have turned out.

I know this is a topic from a while ago , But I was at Rescue 3 today , and they explained to me how the Captain did add some first due boxes for them , or normally assigned , They call them 'Street Boxes'. They said the Black Sunday box , this one , is one of their normally assigned boxes , They said anywhere around 42 , 46/27 & 75/33 they are normally assigned , usually.
