David White, age 78, of Bryan, Texas died on February 12, 2023. Just about anyone involved with municipal or industrial fire protection, education and training in the world knew David.

Starting as a volunteer and paid firefighter in McAllen, he was the first instructor at the Texas Engineering and Extension Service Recruit Firefighter Training Center at Texas A&M University. After 12 years there, he founded Fire and Safety Specialists, Inc. Subsequently, he launched the magazine Industrial Fire World and the IFW Conference and Expo which attracted fire service participants world-wide.

I first met him at his wedding in 1977. He was a superb human being and a friend to all. I could always depend on him for a great story I'd never heard before- from anywhere on the planet. He acquired a 900 Series American LaFrance tractor trailer aerial- an ex- Albany, New York FD ladder company (I think). For years he took it to the Thanksgiving's Day Parade in Houston. It was a huge hit. His riding list included pro sports teams and Members of Congress.. Often, I would see him driving it back home to Bryan (80 miles) on Highway 6 with his trusted tillerman- his wife Lynn.
