according to the ny post and radio 710 am..Detective Steven McDonald has passed.
he was just as much a saint as he was a hero to the NYPD and the city of new York
rest in peace

Funeral will be at saint Patrick's cathedral. Not sure of date and time.

I would think you can consider this a LODD. 

He stopped by the firehouse this past September and spoke with us. What an inspirational person to meet and listen to.

Thanks "manhattan" for posting that Great Story of a Great Man. I know, speaking for myself, I will NEVER forget him. 

I once had a very good friend who I met while visiting my father at a nursing home. He was also a paraplegic like Det Steve McDonald. He had a simple ground level fall right in his own kitchen. From that, he could never walk or move his arms again. But he wasn't on a respirator like Det McDonald was. My friends name was Ray Hocking, and I got to see for myself how difficult life was every minute of the day for him.

A simple job like pushing the button on his TV remote to change the channel or adjust the volume, was an impossible task to do.

He couldn't answer his phone when it rang. Someone would have to call the person back for him.

He couldn't get himself out of bed in the morning or go to bed when he was tired.

Like Det McDonald, my friend Ray has passed on. Ray's fall happened on September 10, 2001. It was the day before America was attacked. Ray and his wife were in the hospital wondering if he would live or die, or ever walk again. His wife Sandy, wrote a book about it called; "Split Second - Life Change".

If you think you're having a bad day, think about Det McDonald or my buddy Ray Hocking. "We don't really know what a bad day is".

Thanks again "manhattan" for posting this story. I know that "I" will NEVER FORGET Det Steven McDonald, or my friend Ray Hocking.

A Mass for Detective Steven McDonald will be celebrated on Tuesday, 7 February 2017 at 1800 hours at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 230 East 90 Street, Manhattan, between Second and Third Avenues.  The location is easily accessible by the new Second Avenue ?Q? train or the East Side IRT at 86th Street and several bus lines.

I worked with Steven on the Fr. Mychal Judge Walk of Remembrance and will take it as a personal favor if as many people as possible from NYCFIRE.NET would attend and if you would kindly inform your communities and invite them. 

The 6:00 PM Mass is normally said in the lower church (Chapel).  The entrance to the Chapel is through a small door at the extreme left-hand (east) end of the church toward the bottom of the hill, i.e., the exposure two side.  Hopefully, the pastor will allow the upper church to be opened should there be sufficient turnout.

I have invited NYPD to present a uniformed contingent and hope that active and retired members of FDNY and other departments may be able to turn out as well.  Please publicize the Mass to your friends, firehouses and communities.

If you will attend, I?d appreciate if you?d let me know by responding on here so I can let the church know if the upper Church may be necessary.

I know that I can count on each of you.
