Just wanted to highlight another special Retiree this week after 1st Dep Commish Turner
The Senior Man from 3 Truck "Recon" on Union Square Fireman Mike Moran has retired after 32+ years on the job (also served 1yr and a half with PD)
I was lucky enough to meet Mike at 3 Truck years ago and Mike as a man with proud Irish heritage from County Armagh and i hit it off straight away. We stay in touch ever since, id stop by every time whilst in Manhattan and then meeting with him, his wife & a few men from 3 Truck last April here in Dublin whilst they were over for one of the men from 3 Trucks Marriage (FF Mike McNamara from County Kilkenny) and i showed them around the many pubs Dublin has to offer
This year as i stopped by and had dinner at 3 Truck Mike told me he was going in November and although he'd miss it he was ready. Himself and his wife Donna are looking to cycle across America
As im sure many of you have seen on Facebook mike was played out of 3 Truck by bagpipers after his final 24 at 18:00hrs Wednesday 16th November
Another worthy note is that Mike was voted as FDNY Emerald Society Irishman of the Year 2017 only 2 weeks ago an honour i know he was truly proud of
Mikes joined FDNY on August, 1985. He was assigned to E-231 Watkins Street after probie school & stayed there until May, 1991 when he transferred to Recon L-3. On 9/11, Mike lost his brother, Battalion Chief John Moran SOC.
His Father Walter did over 20+ years in Engine 265, His Fathers Brother Charlie did over 28+ years (17 of them on Watkins St) and Retired a Capt. Another Cousin from that generation Capt Charlie Moran was Capt of Rescue 4 & considered at the time one of the most highly decorated FFs in the history of FDNY. Mike Cousin Tommy Woods was awarded the Gordon Bennett Medal after he was credited with saving dozens of lives during Sandy. Another Cousin John Moran did over 30+ years and Retired a Lieu. He also had another Cousin Micky Moran in Ladder 104. And he now has a nephew in Ladder 5. Great Family History within the Dept
In October 2001, Mike riled up the crowd at the Concert for New York with his taunt at Osama Bin Laden when he told him to "Kiss his Royal Irish Ass"

So with that said I would like to THANK Mike for always been a Great Host to me when in NYC and wish himself and his wife Donna All the very best in the years to come (attached photos are of Mike & Donna on right) at the Award Night & Starting his last tour with Recon)
