Hello guys, I am new to this site and I was wondering if you would be able to answer some questions. This would be really appreciated.

Firstly, Why does Rescue 1 always leave the back door open even when they are driving?

Secondly, Why are they replacing Rescue 1 (The Pierce) I thought that it was in good condition?

And Lastly, Does the collapse rescue carry only 2 firefighters in the front cab or is there more in the front and the rear of the truck?

Thanks for reading this guys, I really like the site!

ill do my best

First question problay odvious but i dont know so i wont answer lol.

2. Rescue 1 is begin replaced because it was bought with grant money and they want all frontline rescues to be the same.

3. Its only 2 there is no space in the Back for anyone i think the new collapse rescues are non walk in boxes.

    • If the A/C unit works and it's very hot outside, or if it's very cold, wet, snowy outside they will ride with the back doors closed. If the weather is pleasant, it's more comfortable in the back with the side windows and back doors open.
    • I would assume standardization of the five front line rescue rigs.
    • The main purpose of the five collapse rescue rigs is to transport equipment for use at the collapse scene. The two Firefighters in many cases are not even assigned to a Rescue Company. The entire 'box' is storage space for various types of collapse rescue related gear.

Brooklyn Collapse Rescue 2 - E 280 L 132

Queens Collapse Rescue 4 - E 261 L 116

Staten Island Collapse Rescue 5 - Rescue 5

The Queens collapse unit is with L116. Unfortunately, E261 was disbanded on May 25, 2003

Is Collapse rescue 3 the only new Collapse Rescue (The spartan type). Because on FDNY trucks all the rest of the collapse rescues are Macks, except for Rescue 3's.

Edit: Rescue 5 also has a new collapse Rescue aswell.

Rescue Collapse 3,5 are 2009 Spartan / Ferrara

Rescue Collapse 1,2,4 2005 Mack MR / Ferrara

1,2,and 4 were replacing either old rescue rigs used as collapse units, or bought brand new and placed in service(I forget). 3 and 5 were replacing older rigs. It doesn't make financial sense to buy 3 rigs in 2005, only to replace them 4 years later.

Rescue 2?s Old Rescue Mack ran as Rescue Collapse 2, Rescue Collapse 5 & Haz Mat

Thanks you all for you great info. With the collapse rescue does Rescue 3 handle all the collapse stuff?

As per Rescue 3 website they are the City Wide Collapse Rescue. This may have changed in recent times but not so long ago i did here Rescue 3 & Rescue Collapse 3 get S/C into Queens for a collapse job

That page of Rescue 3's website hasn't been updated in a while.  All the Collapse Rescues do the same thing now.  Rescue 3 is just 2nd due Rescue into parts of northern Queens.  (Remember that Major Collapse Assignments call for 2 Rescues and 2 Collapse Rescues)

Thanks for the info catry

Rescue 3 at one time had the only collapse rig in the city.  After 9/11 they gave each boro a collapse unit and Decon unit.

Got another one for you guys! :p Why does FDNY have the walk in rescues with 2 in  the front and the rest in the back. Why not just a four door cab and a box on the back?

With a walk in back you can gear up ......as well as set up specialized equipt ...also perform cpr / first aid if required .....etc ....you have mobility inside.
