Once you get past the western suburbs of San Antonio, you are in the thousands of square miles of West Texas. The old-timers can still remember when rural electrification came. You are on your own- at least for a while.

To quote Brownsville native Mike Tyson: "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth."

EMS in Uvalde (pop. 15,000) performed that day no worse than the majority of EMS systems in the U.S. If this MCI had occurred in Eastern Long Island or Western Virginia, the outcomes would likely have been the same.

Interestingly, in the early 1970's the U.S. Army assigned the 507th Air Ambulance Company using the med-evac version of the "Huey" for aviation EMS support to West Texas. In conjunction with the Medic School at Fort Sam Houston, this provided OJT "dust-off" training for overseas combat operations.

All of the journalist contributors to the above Rolling Stone article are well known progressive sources of gun control politics.
