Sunday at 11:01 am, the Long Beach Fire Department received a report of a Person in the water at Monroe Blvd and the Ocean Beach Park, Ex-Chief James Jacobi who was working as the City of Long Beach Animal Control Officer was first on the scene and entered the water within 3 minutes of the alarm, he located the victim and began the rescue, he was met soon after by Firefighter Cliff Skudin who paddled out on a surfboard, the two placed the victim on the surfboard and began to bring him to shore, they were then assisted by several other members.
Once on shore CPR was immediately started, the patient was removed from the beach and placed onto Ambulance 2319 where Advanced Life Support treatment was provided, the patient intubated and cardiac medications were administered. The patient was transported to the hospital where unfortunately he was pronounced.
While this was going on, it was unsure if there was a second victim in the water, so a full search of the area was conducted with negative results.
We were assisted at the scene by Water Rescue Units from the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department, Inwood Fire Department, Oceanside NY Fire Department,East Rockaway Fire Department, Island Park Fire Department, Freeport Fire Department and Atlantic Beach Rescue.
The Island Park Fire Department and Atlantic Beach Rescue also provided Ambulances at the scene and the Point Lookout Lido FD was standing by with an Ambulance in our Firehouse.
The Long Beach Police Department as well as the Nassau County Police Department Aviation and Marine Bureaus also assisted.
All operations were under the Command of Chief Hadrick Ray and Assistant Chiefs Marino, Babich and Reinhard.
