Firefighters in Lawrence MA are battling a fifth alarm fire in several residences and a restaurant. Responding crews to 324 Lowell Street found fire in a 2 1/2 story building and the fire quickly escalated to a third alarm.

On August 2, 1858 the Chicago City Council authorized the formation of a paid department. First company organized was Engine 1 @ the City Armory at Adams and Franklin. They moved to a new house at 121 N LaSalle on December 25th. House was destroyed during the great Chicago Fire of 1871.
