FDNY Fire Service Line of Duty Death
April 8, 1907 - LODD
Captain John J. Ryan, 58
Engine 80
FDNY. Manhattan, New York

On arrival, firefighters found heavy fire in a sprawling, four-story brick railway car barn. Less than ten minutes after the arrival of firefighters, the roof collapsed pushing a wall of the "fireproof" building out onto the members of Engine 80. Captain Ryan was killed and seven members of the company were seriously injured. The only reason that more firefighters weren't injured was that the second and third alarm companies hadn't arrived yet.
RIP. Never forget.
