At 9:40 pm Sep 8 the Long Beach Fire Department received a report of a fire on a balcony at 10 W Broadway on the 6th floor, upon arrival members were met with a smoke condition coming from burning Lithium Ion Batteries from a Skateboard.
The Fire was extinguished and the batteries were lowered to the street from the balcony so not to be removed through the building. Fans were used to ventilate the smoke from the apartment and building.
The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Hazardous Materials Response Team responded and placed the smoldering batteries in a special metal container and removed them from the scene.
All units were up within 1 hour and all Operations were under the Command of Chief Hadrick Ray and Assistant Chief Reinhard.
