"Busy Few Days In The 4th Battalion
This past weekend was a very busy one for the fire departments in the Fourth Battalion Fire District. In addition to numerous normal fire calls and EMS runs, there were a few major incidents that occurred keeping the firefighters busy in all the communities. On Saturday morning, the Lakeview Fire Department operated at a working house fire on Columbia Ave. Rockville Centre, Lynbrook, and Malverne also responded to the scene to assist. Later that evening, Rockville Centre responded as a FAST team to the Hempstead Fire Department for a bedroom fire. A few hours later the Lynbrook Fire operated at a house fire on Scranton Ave. Rockville Centre Truck Company responded to that scene to assist. Then at 8:15pm the Malverne and Lakeview Fire Departments operated at an overturn with extrication on Cornwell Ave. One patient was removed from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital.
Additionally, just after midnight the Hewlett Fire Department had a house fire in North Woodmere, in which Lynbrook Truck responded to the scene while East Rockaway Ambulance stood-by.
Then at 4:27AM, Rockville Centre operated at a "Car Into the Woods" on Peninsula Blvd and Eagle Ave with multiple people pinned. 1 occupant died at the scene.
Also on Sunday at 10:38 PM Rockville Centre was alerted for a motor vehicle accident with pin on Peninsula Blvd south of The Rockville Centre Park and north of the exit for Demot/north village Avenues. One car traveling southbound crossed the median and slammed into a tree on the northbound side. One person was pronounced dead at the scene while another was extricated and transported to the hospital.
And on Tuesday, just before 9:30 AM, the East Rockaway Fire Department was alerted for their dive team to respond mutual aid to the Freeport Fire Department. Freeport units were operating at a confirmed car into the water with one occupant removed with CPR in progress. East Rockaway put 2 divers into the water to confirm there were no other occupants in the car. They operated on scene for approximately one hour.
It has been a busy few days for our VOLUNTEER firefighters and EMTS. We thank them for all their hard work and dedication to their communities.
