This is my apartment building in Manhattan - actually the easterly wing - my apt 8S is in the westerly wing. You can see the report of the Building Mgr describing things as the maintenance staff saw it

E23 is two blocks west of the building so they are very close and the fire was extinguished pretty quickly - apparently a lot of smoke in the common area in addition to Apt 7J. I am currently in Pawleys Island SC so I didn’t see anything first hand.
