Does FDNY loan units as spare to other area dept? There's a video circulating online that shows a FDNY tower that I'm assuming was a spare as New Rochelles tower with captions saying its a loaner.

Yes, it's TL*119's old rig

It's not done on a regular basis, and it is not a rarity but yes, da FDNY does loan rigs to other departments. It's also not the first time NRFD has gotten a loaner.

Surprised, considering there isn’t much left in the spare fleet but It’s all about $$

They may not have a deep spare fleet but what about the units that were replaced and awaiting disposal?

Other people would be much more knowledgeable about this question, but it has always been my opinion that da Shops removes EVERYTHING that could possibly be reused from every rig that's headed for disposal . . . making them of no value for any other department's use without major refurbishment.

Honestly dont know. I know in the past when my Dept purchased engines from the city, they were just about ready to go. The airpack brackets were there, shelves, seats, light bars etc. We only had to put radios in, re letter, swap light bars and load it. Things may have changed in between.
