    Canada Wildfires/Smoke Conditions 6/6/23

That video footage that had been floating around is visible satellite. The “explosion” of activity is just the sun coming up and illuminating the headers that were already there.

    Canada Wildfires/Smoke Conditions 6/6/23

I’m on Lake Erie in Ohio. We’ve had a LOT of haze for a week or two but no odor until the last day or so. It’s insane.

    SUPER PUMPER 1

Pressure and Volume are two different things when it comes to fire pumps. I've experienced plenty of hydrants that have a ton of flow but zero pressure, necessitating a pumper to be put on the hydrant to then push the volume in an increased pressured to the fireground. Where I work now, I can...

Springfield apparatus too tall for underpass.

The bridge shows a 12 foot height limit according to Google Maps. I wonder who spec'd the truck without taking that into consideration.

    SUPER PUMPER 1

While I'm not too knowledgeable about it, I'd assume that's still significantly less than the Neptune system that NJ has. I feel like this would be a lot easier to maneuver and setup than that entire system, which would lead to getting it into service a whole lot faster. In other semi related...

    SUPER PUMPER 1

Pumps are also only rated from a draft. Adding any pressurized source (hydrant, Marine unit, etc.) pumping to them will easily surpass whatever the pump is rated for. My department's 2000GPM ladder can easily do much more.

Today is the anniversary of the worst fire in Kentucky's history!

As the story says, the site is just south of Cincinnati. I drive by often and you'd never suspect that that piece of land was the site of such a loss of life. Edit: It actually looks like they're building a residential subdivision on the site in Google Street View from last year.

Los Angeles City FD new pumpers 5/26/23

I THINK they just number them on the front and rear. License plate style in the front and that big red panel on the lower rear.

I’ve seen a few places say it was spray foam.

Laurence Harbor NJ FD new Rig May 2023

This will be our second Sutphen. We have a 100ft TL as well and we love it. The 44 months was the high end, I think the low end was 36 but either way the contract had verbiage in it for going over that 44 month threshold as well.

    Nashville,TN Update On Fire Department(fully-staffed & 81 new fire trucks & ambulances)

I was in Nashville for my first time last night and you aren't kidding about the traffic. We made our way all through town but especially downtown my wife and I both commented on how bad it would be to get an ambulance through there let alone an engine or truck.

    What is this rig?????

Cleveland has done this for years. Their rescues have had cots in them for years. It was always crazy to see them backed into the ER at University Hospital on the east side. They're down to two rescues now, from 4 but I'm pretty sure the cots remain. Their use has dropped dramatically though...

Tallest Aerial Ladder in North America

A department on the east side of Cleveland has one of those 137’ E-One’s. Crazy part is they don’t really have the high rise need for it, but they have it.
