Just wondering how many of FDNY's apparatus have working AC. I know of two that don't. OSHA say they have to have it but do they have to keep in working order. Back in the day we didn't have AC but we weren't wearing bunker gear. This is the time of year when open rigs were in their glory.
On April 24 the city is starting on the rehab of Engine 310 and Ladder 174's firehouse. As of 1800hrs tonight Engine 310 is quartered with Engine 248 and Ladder 174 is in with Engine 283. So responses in Flatbush and East Flatbush will be interesting.

They sounded great from the street and I agree that the 68/69 FDNY ALF tillers were classics. But they were deafening for the three or four guys standing next to the exhaust stack and muffler.

That program had me going crazy yesterday trying to post 108's ALF. I still don't know what I did to get it to post. I got the program down. Below is 123's 68 ALF.

What is the apology for. Yes it was on the BFD type enclosure. This is what SL7401 looked like at the end of is FDNY life which was Feb 1981 with the fixed enclosure like Boston no bubble windows
I talked to one of our Staff Chiefs at the time and mentioned it to him. He had the shops buy a pair to install on 147 rig as a trial apparatus. The shops advised him that they were more of a hindrence than a help. He was the safety chief (3 stars) so they were never installed.
I met him on a few occasions once when he was LD at the shops. Introduced by a couple of my fine officers and former Siegal Eagles.

1979 tillers were worse than the 1974. One of the drawbacks from the original enclosures was the handle to open it was right above your head. Here a blast from the past for you chief.
L 166 gave up the 1974 tiller because they were killing the tillerman on Neptune Ave. We relocated to 166 and I had the tiller. I lost count the amount of times I hit my head on the tiller cab roof those old sliding tiller enclosure. SL7401 almost new the tiller enclosure slid back.
I remember my Father driving one of those beast down Ave U. 159 had it as a spare.I remember the brass hand rail that ran around the front seat. The rig started backfiring by Marine Park were my friends and I were, we started laughing. We were in my yard when my Dad came home. He was...
