The Constellation Fire - Dec 19, 1960 Brooklyn Navy Yard

I remember both of those jobs/fires. At the time, we were living on South 4 Street between Berry and Wythe. We were also in between firefighters on the job. My grandfather retired in 1957 from L104. He had quite the commute. His son, my uncle, didn’t get on the job until 1961. I remember...

    Park Slope & Staten Island Plane Midair & Crash . . . Dec 16, 1960

It was the change he had in his pocket. On December 16, 1960, two commercial airliners crashed into each other over Brooklyn, killing 134 people in the air and on the ground. There was only one survivor: 11-year-old Stephen Baltz, who somehow landed in a snowbank. He appeared to have...

You may not know it by its name but I’m sure you all have seen the video. This is that fire in Downtown Los Angeles that occurred back in 2020. It‘s the one where the members were coming down off the roof and the aerial ladder and were caught in a fireball. This is their story. It‘s a bit...

Chicago FD 135 Foot Rear Mount

April 17, 1966. My uncle‘s first assignment was L24 back in 1961. At some point L24 had one of them. I don’t remember the year but I do remember seeing it in the FH when we went to visit him in the early to mid 60’s.

LAFD To Purchase First Electric Fire Engine In North America

During my time at Brooklyn Union Gas, in 1993 they assigned me a brand new Dodge Spirit that ran on Natural Gas. They left the gasoline tank in the car and installed the Natural Gas cylinder in the truck. We referred to it as a dual fuel car instead of a dedicated Natural Gas vehicle where the...

    LIST OF FDNY CHIEFS

Not sure if this would help but I just looked at the 2022 Medal Day publication and that will get you as far down as the Division Commanders. Of course since it’s publication there have been changes, but it‘s a start. Good luck Dan. Can’t wait for the book.
