This crash is not far from the location of the Air Florida crash. That was on January 13, 1982, I believe. After that crash many studies were done on air crashes or ditching in cold water. A few things were found out.
1. People usually can live for NOT more than :20 minutes emersed in cold water...
I had the Honor of meeting Chief Halligan before I was a FDNY Firemen. I worked with his nephew and was invited to a 1st Communion Party at his nephew's house. I started talking with, I believe then retired, Chief Halligan, and told him I was on the Firemen's List and expected to get appointed...
Right Ray Brown a great fireman and a great guy. It has been over. 40 years, since I was a Lieutenant in Tower Ladder 21, and we shared our firehouse with Engine 34 and at that time Rescue 1. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired.
