    RIGs in Procurement or Solicitation

If it’s that easy , then why is E289 & L136 still operating out of a quonset hut across from the quarters? And probably will be for sometime while their existing firehose is demoed and a new one is built. My estimate for the new firehouse to open 5 to 7 years. R-1 & R-4 have been hunting...

American LaFrance / LTI Quint ?

If I’m correct, those were both tower ladders with pumps , no hose , no water tanks . So does that actually qualify as a “quint“? I was under the impression that a quint also has a hose bed & a boster tank .

    Collapse Rescue

I highly doubt that , Rescue 2& 4 are doing about 34, 3500 runs a year in two of the biggest bourghs. I’m not sure what their numbers were last year, even with all the lithium batteries runs but I don’t think it’s that high.

Fleet Friday FDNY SPECIAL UNIT COMPARTMENTS

Do you have any idea what that would cost to fund , man , train and equip 4 more Hazmat companies … it would be astronomical! And besides the logistics of finding a suitable location in each Boro and finding members that would actually want to volunteer to man them …next to imposable …each new...

Fleet Friday FDNY SPECIAL UNIT COMPARTMENTS

The SSL‘s fall under the Rescue Ops of SOC . the CPC’s fall under the Hazmat ops of SOC. Two different budgets and more importantly two different Federally funded grants. It’s all about the federal grant money...or in this case the lack of federal grant money for the SSL anymore.

    Collapse Rescue

Is the bid for new collapse rescue rigs or squad’s second pieces ? The original post said collapse rigs . And if the bid is actually for squad second pieces ….i got ask ..where is Sq 1, 18 ,& 252 going to keep them ….because 4 door crew cabs won’t fit in their firehouses.

Fleet Friday FDNY SPECIAL UNIT COMPARTMENTS

You’ll never see a tandem axle squad rig in NYC. it really has nothing to do with the size of their firehouse , it’s all about the rig being to long for then to operate as a engine and be “on a hydrant “. FDNY is a “fire to hydrant “operation 95% of the time. So basically the engine belongs ON...

Chief, used to be a great place to watch the Macry’s 4th of July East River fireworks display. Not the same anymore with all the building going on all around the firehouse

    Temporary Relocations

Most of the real old house had kitchen up on the third floor. The back of the apparatus floor was the stables for the horses. E229 /TL146 Still has the kitchen in its original place on the third floor.

    Temporary Relocations

Hmmmm, kitchen on the second floor and the house watch on the first floor but towards the back of the apparatus floor. Going to be hard to see or have control over the front door to see who comes and goes or monitor the front apron and or front of the fireHouse….watch belongs at the front of...

12/10/23 box 1622 Pin with possible ejection

You really think it’s a good idea to have the squads chase unconfirmed pins. The squads have first due box’s along with EMS runs . If you or your family lIved in a a squads first due area would you want them unavailable to your house because they were chasing unconfirmed pins. 97 % of...

    The truckless triangle

I’ve said this before ,and I say it again …. worked in that area for years , it’s a very engine heavy area , many single engine companies from the late 1800’s …..the hose drawn days...the BFD DAYS. When single engine companies where placed very close to each other. Lets say a horse drawn engines...

Where would you put 3 Additional Ladder companies.

Did you ever think that that area, which is commonly referred to as the “trackless triangle“ is actually a very heavy engine area. numerous trucks in that area with a very respectable response times to that area...108 , 124, 102 , 112 , 111. All very close . Many other areas of the city that...
