    Firehouses built into high rises.

The city drop the ball on something like this with Hudson Yards. They should have demanded the builder include a firehouse for a development of that size. So now here we are, with the surrounding companies running their asses off do to the size and population of Hudson Yards. supposedly R-1...

Who were the Best FDNY SCUBA Divers pre-9/11 late 1990s?

Squads don’t dive …just the 5 Rescue companies. And ALL the present fdny scuba instructors are PADI certified instructors and dive masters. ….and its been that way for a long time. Never had anyone “who knew scuba diving well enough to teach others“ as instructors. The type of diving...

What is the normal assignment for a person hit by or pinned under a train or a subway train?

Yes …many. And when they do happen between stations most likely a Box is transmitted for both stations …bringing even more personal. “ The more the merrier“ is not always a good thing …operating on the track bed is a very dangerous place. Especially when FD members are carrying metal stokes...

What is the normal assignment for a person hit by or pinned under a train or a subway train?

A man under and a trench are two different job….apples or oranges. A trench is a VERY equipment and personal intensive operations. And yes …can last hours. Not the case w a man under. Air bags or a bottle jack , some gribbing , back board or Revees sleeve … 2 or 3 guys under the train…anymore...

What is the normal assignment for a person hit by or pinned under a train or a subway train?

That’s 25 fire fighters , 5Lt/ Capt & 3BC for one in event ….a bit of a over kill, don’t ya think. Even if the person is pinned under the train , the most you can get Safely under a train to perform the removal is 3 , maybe 4 , members to perform the operation. Up until recently , a SOC support...

    New Rescues in Production

Rescue 4 spare was supposed to be stored at E-251 put it was determined the the rig was to heavy for the apparatus floor , so now it’s outside at SOC Island ....not the best location. It just goes to support of the need for R-4 to get their own new CENTRALLY located firehouse in their borough...

    3/22/21 Brooklyn 2nd Alarm Box 746

Probably not two trucks as close as 124 & 112 . TL 124 used to be first due to box 746 before they redid the box assignment. Most of those boxes in that area on Wilson and Knickerbocker will depend on the time of day as to who gets in first ....lots of traffic on Knickerbocker during the day...

    Roosevelt Island Firehouse

Beside, if they where to open any new companies ( highly doubtful) I can think of many other place that are way busier or with longer responses time due to companies being so distant from each other. Right now the area around Hudson Yards comes to mind.
