A FAMILY watched their home burn for more than half an hour after firefighters battling a blaze in a rural area ran out of water.

This was a disgrace that was allowed to happen. 999 (911) call came in for house fire in Bellewstown, Co Meath which is close to the county boundaries of Louth & Dublin. Because no persons were reported inside the house 2 Fire Appliances from Dublin (Retained on pager) & Drogheda (Full Time / Retained) were dispatched.
As the FF's arrived no water source could be found so they only had what was inside the tank's on the engines. An immediate request was put in for a Water Tanker as both Engines on scene were almost out.
At this stage 2 more Engines where dispatched from within County Meath although they where not the closest. It was a wind driven fire and neighbours and Firefighters battled together to try stop the fire spreading. A farmer then turned up with a Tractor & Full Tanker of water as a Fire Service Tanker had yet to be dispatched

Again this was down to saving money. County Meath did not want to pay for 2 more Engines from Dublin & Louth aswell as a Tanker from Louth so they dispatched Fire Crews from with-in there County (again they where not close to the fire) When the extra Engines did eventually arrive the 2 Engines from Dublin & Louth where sent away.
