I can see it now: why didn't the 57 transmit the second alarm with fire in the cockloft.  Not me, you understand.

Box 961 was one of the "OH S__T" boxes in 280-132. The year 1954, third alarm for this box and a fellow buff Tommy McAnuff who buffed in 132 went to the fire on a bitter cold day in  early February, he wound up getting pneumonia then double pneumonia and died of this. The story and pictures were on the front page of the Daily News or the Daily Mirror of 280 and 132 pulled out of qtrs and tolled the rig bells as the hearse passed by the firehouse.I'll remember Tommy and this day until I'm gone,Tommy was 15 years old.Tommy's younger brother Owen retired as an FDNY Dispatcher, another brother a retired NYPD Detective. 132 had a plaque made up about Tommy that was affixed to the entrance of the housewatch desk (before the wall was broken through) and now is over the entrance (or was) to the kitchen. I was 12yrs old at the time.  R.I.P. Tommy

Jack that is a sad story and I can understand why you haven't forgotten it. Thank you for sharing it. I'm glad that the members of Eng 280 and Lad 132 have decicated that plaque in his name.
