2014 Busiest Year on Record for FDNY

Can anyone confirm or deny a comment made concerning that article that if a victim survives for 24 hours the city doesn't count the death as fire related since the victim has been the responsibility of a hospital for that time period?  Sounds odd but not unusual.

That is a fact....FDNY only tracks a 10-45 code one or two for 24 hrs....if they die after that time period it is not counted .
