I must admit it caught me off guard but FDNY is in the beginning stages of procuring new 100ft tractor drawn aerials & 2000gpm pumpers. I believe the TDA's are replacements for tiller 147 & 175. The pumper solicitation I think is for the KME contract that expires at the end of November. The First conferences are pre solicitation meetings for 6/15 and 6/8 according to the postings.

Also, when is the next round/batch of 100ft rearmounts coming in? I thought Ferrara was the low bidder, where are they?

lnteresting.

They should get started on building the next batch of Ferrara 100ft rearmounts soon. The contract was signed last October.

Thanks for the info on the Ferrara's. I thought 147 & 175's new rigs were already being built by Seagrave. Kind of surprised they haven't been started yet.

Those 2 Tillers are being built by seagrave, and have been started.    Tac units are expected soon along with a few new tower ladders

Is one of the tac's still running with the mack/general safety rescue ?

As reported on this site in Dec 2013, Seagrave was the low bidder.  Seems like 18 months is a looooong time to build what is basically a utility body and mount it on a commercial chassis. And people were b!tch!ng about KME taking a long time to get started on the pumpers.

I wonder if part of the problem might be the availability of the commercial chassis that were specified?  I've heard that with the economy taking off like it is a lot of commercial trucks are very hard to get these days.  Since these are quite specialized including I would assume four-wheel-drive it may be a matter of getting them to the Seagrave factory.

I'll keep an eye out for the new tillers.  The question then becomes why are they soliciting a contract for tillers?  Because if they've already ordered the replacements for those 2 units, they shouldn't need to replace the other tillers until 2022 at the earliest.

I agree that doesn't seem like there any others that need to be replaced and I don't recall any of the other ones being damaged so they would have to be replaced.  I'm wonder if maybe they're just taking bids so in case they need to replace one for some reason they already have a qualified bidder?

Now their having a pre-solicitation conference for 75 ft towers on July 21, 2015.  I think your right Bulldog about them wanting to have signed contracts in case they need to make an emergency purchase.

I believe the tiller bids are for a few spares to have since the spare pool is in rough shape.  This is what I've heard, how true it is, i don't really know.  And wasn't  L143 heavily damaged?
