L36 sees boat - reports boat is sailing south on the Hudson and is NOT in distress
L36 issues a code 10-91

B19: 10-4

Hey

Why do you always post incidents that turn out to be NOTHINGS?  (I.E 10-92's, 10-91's)
I don't want to sound like Mr.Negative, but if a box turns out to be a big nothing, what is the point of posting it??

It's a waste of time to click on a post that might read " Jumper off bridge"  then you click on the post because it sounds interesting, then to find out it was either a 10-91 or 10-92.  ??

That call comes in all the time when the Circle Line has to wait for the RR Tressel to open. you'll know when its real.

Go back and do your homework (read all of his posts and do the math) and you will find that 99.8% of his posts are 10-75s or higher, statistically, that's as good as Ivory soap.

Thanks bro for the defense -  I thought these posts like the Circle Line and Williamsburgh Bridge Jumper showed what the FDNY is up against - they actually mobilize full responses (e.g Rescue matrix) I thought readers might be interested in that. I wasn't posting land related incidents. As far as trying to generate posts that's a pretty slippery slope - attributing motives to someone.

With that said, if users would like or not like to see these posts then chime in. I will abide by the consensus of the group.

Looks like 2 Negatives so far.

Also - thanks Matty for the Circle Line info - I was unaware of that -would seem if that's a general practice perhaps FDNY should be having a conversation with Circle Line

Just my 2 cents . . . which may or may not be of any value . . . but I've stopped looking at posts originated by efd274 . . . I'm just not interested in maybes, possibles, or "does anybody have a rundown".  I'd much rather see posts like catry's, which you can depend on to be accurate & meaningful.  For what it's worth.

I certainly don't like seeing calls that are nothing.  A 10-75 should be the minimum call that is posted.

I'm with Bulldog..10-75 & up. Everything else is like watching a bad news day on TV when nothing is going on....filler. Lets leave the full & accurate rundowns to Catry, guitarman, john248 etc..

I just wanted to add to this thread, i do agree that its better to have someone with access to a full rundown doing the incident postings, however, that said, these people may miss an incident, and therefore no posting will be made of it, myself, been in the UK, can listen in, and indeed do listen in daytime over in the UK, which ofcourse is middle of the night in NYC, so i can catch 10-75's or above that might be missed due to everyone been asleep in bed.. ::)

I used to post incidents for the Bronx, but just have not had the time to do that recently, but hope to get back into it again soon. I also keep an eye on gothamist labs, which has a incident notification that pretty much catches everything that goes on in NYC, including fires, its surprising just how many fires go unmentioned on here.

Anyways, thats my bit..

Thanks to all those who took the time to respond to this thread. There were a limited number of responses that addressed my question (9 in all). At the time of this note there were 593 views - I realize that some of you who responded may have viewed the site several times anxiously awaiting the results of this informal survey (I?m only kidding).

Based on what I saw, I will in the future only post 10-75?s that lead to something - as the guitarman suggests.  With regard to listing things as probables or question marks I will continue to do that rather than presenting things as absolute when the information is not provided on a scanner. Most of you who listen to the scanner realize that seldom are the first alarm assignments fully identified if identified at all.  Just knowing who would normally respond is not sufficient in my view as some of the units may be out of service.  Perhaps some of the people who do rundowns have access to MDT data or other sources.  If so perhaps they would like to share this info.  I certainly have no objection to making posts more definitive if there is good information available in a timely fashion

For the record I also note that some individuals post things as absolute that don?t check out with what the dispatcher says on the scanner as I have listened to hours upon hours of tape including posted incidents ? they provide a kind of a ?seat of the pants? response ? and I will leave it at that.

Posting these incidents is not ?rocket science? and I will continue to do so in the fashion I just described.  For those of you who don?t like this approach you may wish to follow raybrag?s advice and not read them

I think it is a  good ides that other jobs are posted other than 10-75's, so to get an idea on well FDNY is equipped and how fast they assign SOC units. I do agree if they are only confirmed.
Example--Just from the limited water rescues I have seen made me realize how busy the fireboats in NYC are? Also awesome to see that the Collapse trucks are getting out and used as long as with the other specialized pieces, again as long as the jobs are confirmed and not just something like a disabled vessel. I personally would like to see more Haz-Mat jobs but imagine a lot of them are just routine spills or smells. Well this is a very unformal post and I'm glad to see that other brothers are participating and showing an interest in largest and best Fire Dept in the world, plus the busiest. All stay safe out there.

Guitarman - you are welcome anytime for a couple of beers -even a six pack if your not driving!

my internet was down so I just now reading all the different posts. I see someone was critical of "mundane posts" on this site. Well I live in Chicago and THERE IS NO SITE AVAILABLE THAT GIVES YOU ANY TYPE OF INFORMATION. What info on apparatus and firehouse listings is out of date. Several new houses have opened in the last few years but the 5-11 club lising still has the old location. So be careful of what you bitch about, the alternative might be silence :)
