  Things are VERY DIFFERENT today. Before CADS and the "War Years", certain companies were known as "Key" companies and didn't relocate. Examples in Man. & Bx: E1, E7, E17, E18, E23, E31, E36, E37, E45, E52*, E58, E63, E64, E65, E68, E69, E70*, E71, E73, E76, E82, E84 & E97; L2, L5, L17, L24, L31, L39, L44, L47, L52* & L53*.

What made those particular companies "Key"? Was there special circumstances in their districts? Was their staffing an issue? I would be interested to hear those companies were affected and deemed "key".

Thanks,

E52/L52 are in the Riverdale section of the Bronx which is an area that is up and away from the next closest firehouses, E81/L46 on Bailey Ave. & E95/L36 in Inwood section of Manhattan. E70/L53 is City Island which is really far away and only accessible via the City Island Bridge.
