I thought that it would be a good idea to start an new thread on the tower ladders since information is sketchy and scattered.

Based on my research, there is a three year award for 75' tower ladders to Seagrave.

The first year is for 11 units, then 2, then 9, for a total of 22.

Nothing off the line as of this writing.

When are they going to start being delivered?

According to a reliable source they will begin to ship in the 4th Quarter (which of course could mean December).  FDNY inspectors are due for the mid build review of the first unit.  Delays are primarily due to FDNY design changes.

Here are pictures of a spanking new 75' tower built on the Marauder II chassis for the Village of Hempstead, NY  FD.  I think the FDNY units will have the cab raised in the back like the new Marauder II engines.  It will be interesting when we see FDNY's new towers in the fourth quarter of 2009.

Kind of strange that that they didn't put a raised roof on the Hempstead unit.  It's not as if they made the clearance any lower because the tower is already much higher than the cab.  The price isn't that much different everything taken into consideration and the comfort factor for the crew is significantly better!

Well, the fourth quarter has arrived. We should be seeing some of the new towers soon. Anyone have any further information?

ladder 50 had a message written on the chalkboard next to its riding list for picking up the new rig on 11/5/11. a member added an 11 onto the end of 11/5 as a joke because of all the delays with the new towers.  They have been given numerous days in the past on when they were suppose to get thier new rig but as you all know nobody got squat. Most guys are going by the "we'll believe it when we see it" statement....but we shall see in the next few days what actually happens. just thought id share

The first TL from the order of 22 (11-2-9) was rejected. This is the TL that The link  that sklov5949 posted. So presently Seagrave is re-working the contract specs.

Seagrave is re-working the specifications?  The purchaser writes the specifications for what he wants, the manufacturer meets (or doesn't meet) the specification.  If the problem in this case that FDNY screwed up writing the specifications or Seagrave did not meet them?  If it's the latter it might explain why Ferrara got the recent rear mount contract.

The Tower was rejected due to 2 issues from what i have heard, the FDNY wants greaseable fittings on boom and turntable. The other issue was with the "cat tail" design that left loops when retracting boom, could snag on light poles trees and other items, they may go back to old reel system.

That goes back to what I was saying.  Were those things specified in the specifications that FDNY submitted to the manufacturers?  My guess is probably not.  If they weren't the manufacturer provided what they normally do on that type of equipment or while they felt was best suited for the application.  While I realize FDNY is a big customer of Seagrave I don't believe FDNY should be able to demand changes to meet something they didn't originally specify.

The first of the new tower ladders is expected to leave the production facility on Saturday, Monday the latest.  It will then travel to the Seagrave facility in New Jersey, where it will be inspected by Fleet Services.

They are starting to roll, and we are still in the 4th Quarter!!

From Redlight

The first of 22 new 2010 FDNY Seagrave Marauder II 75 foot towerladders was delivered and delivered last week to the FDNY Shop. It will be assigned to the Bureau of Training.

"The remaining twenty-one of this total three year order are expected to be delivered at the rate of two units each month. They will replace the four remaining 1997 Seagrave 75 foot towerladders, the six 1998s, the five remaining 1999s and six of the remaining nine 2000s in front line service."

According to the previous post "the new towers will replace the four remaining 1997 Seagrave 75 foot towerladders, the six 1998s, the five remaining 1999s and six of the remaining nine 2000s in front line service."

I found the following:

1997 units:    Ladders 138, 124, 21, 46

1998 units:    Ladders 23, 50 77, 35, 153 and 142.

1999 units:    Ladders 15, 31, 41, 146,  162

2000 units:    Ladders 13, 22, 76, 86, 87,159, 157, 135. I only found eight of the nine, and do not know which six will be replaced.
