Officially NO. NYPD Aviation 16 is capable of flying 2 if needed. Mostly reserved for only injured police officers, even then hardly used. Not much room to land plus there are multiple trauma centers. I have heard off them doing medivac from Far Rockaway if a boat brings a injured person in,rare though. If injured out in the water USCG has a Air-Sea Rescue Station in Cape May,NJ and near Boston,MA and can handle fly outs from large cargo vessels.

Most of the metro counties have Med Vac units  - Nassau County, Suffolk County and Westchester County do.

NJ State Police also runs a unit which covers northern NJ, North Star.

Inside NYC you will get other Helo bring Pt's into the West side (30th Street) or East 34th street heliports.  FDNY EMS will send a bus to transport with patient to the needed hospital.
NYPD Aviation will do the flying in the city, used very rare and needs approval of the EMS Communications Tour Commander.

I will have to look up the list of times when EMS units are to consider the Helo, in NYC.

I believe the last time Aviation medevac'd someone was about 2-3 months ago. A Sanitation worker was run over by a bulldozer with massive trauma in the Fresh Kills transfer station in Staten Island. Took almost an hour to get an approval for the medevac. Once they got the approval the aided went to Bellevue.

The county to the east of Quuens, NYC is Nassau. Following is some info on their aviation and medi vac units.  They have three choppers.  I have seen them land all over for medical emergencies - school ballfield, parks, the median or  roadway of the parkways and expressways etc.  A link:

Forgot to mention that Jacobi Hospital does have a pad.

However it doesn't seem to get used, I hear them flying to a spot over by Orchard Beach instead of the Hospital.  NYPD Controls pretty much everthing oustside of the heliports, and I know they have a say in it.

Quick look at the rules..  Used for Specialty Referrals, Burns, CO, snake bites, etc. Transport time greater then 20Min's but helo less then 10.

Any Medevac coming in from outside the city with a specialty referral will get FDNY support.  Commercial fly's with nothing special will not get FDNY Support.

Citywide Dispatcher Supervisor talks with FDNY OMA Doctor and NYPD to give the green light.
