Bonita Springs FL Small Aircraft Crash

A small aircraft crashed into the woods in Bonita Springs Florida late this morning.  The crash site is in the southern  and eastern most part of Lee County, along the Collier County border. The area is about 1000 feet north of the eighth hole of the Bonita National Golf and Country Club. Emergency vehicles are stationed at the end of my street. and near hole 7.

Responding  are:

Engine 24 and Brush 24
Ladder 26  (newly established company with a new 75 foot Pierce rearmount)
Engine 22
and Tower ladder 25 (out of service) crew responding in reserve  Engine 29
Batallion 20 Chief
Chief of Department Joseph Daigle

From Southwest Florida Airport

Engine 93
Batallion 90

Lee County Sheriff helicopter
3 Lee County Deputies

It took time to locate the crash site since the brush and woods is so heavy.

It is my understanding that there was only one person in the aircraft, the pilot, who is reported deceased.  RIP

It is my understanding that the crash site is secured and awaiting the FAA from Tallahassee FL.
 
Kevin, when I saw the location, Bonita Springs, Fl., I thought the location sounded familiar.

This crash wasn't far from your place or maybe your neighbors. It could have hit some houses too.
 
Yes Bill about 800 feet from the end of our street.  People playing golf heard and saw it and called 911.  Perhaps if they didn't see the plane it might not have been found, certainly not easily.

Report as of this morning:  it was a small home built experimental type aircraft, flying out of Page Field, FtMyers to Immokalee.  One person - the pilot killed.

Woods very dense.  Two of the Bonita Springs rescue crews never got to the site because of the density of the area.

Always amazed at the info on this site, especially local incidents way down here in SWFL. Glad to see other SWFL folks on this site.
There was also a recent posting of a structure fire in Fort Myers (my neighbor is a fireman/EMT in FM but was off duty that night).
