Just turned on the computer, seems as if Boston has a multiple-alarm fire in the Brighton section (D-11) on Embassy Road. Box is 5336.

According to Boston.com firefighters responded to a one-story commercial building and found heavy smoke showing. Fire location is 160 Chestnut Hill Ave, firefighters are hampered by temperatures in the teens.

Yes it is a cold day in the Northeast. Grump, do you remember that job in the 70s (?) at the Plant Shoe Factory ? It was a fairly mild winter day and in a few hours while fighting that fire, the temperature dropped like a rock. I think I have a few pictures around of those rigs completely covered in think ice.

Progress report for 4-5336. Two ladder pipes, one Tower (Pierce mid mount TL-3) and numerous hand lines in operation. Temp is 18 degrees. And yes I remember Plant Shoe, I buffed it. That place was huge. I remember it was moderately warm with a light rain falling. Then a front came through and the temperature really dropped. One of Billy Noonan's best pix is of a Mack completely encased in ice.

This was a block long commercial building, which included a pizza place and an industrial supply company. Initial calls were for an explosion from the middle of the building, the supply building. Eventually there was a complete roof collapse, because of the fire contents of the industrial supply all companies near the fire scene were ORDERED to use SCBA. 18 degrees, been their since 8 AM (relief companies). Every day is not the best, BFD shows how good they are.

Thanx for all the back-up. Officer from L-11 was proud of his truck, paid for decals with a lion.axe on their Seagrave. Maybe Boston Fire Historical has some fotos!!

What's with 16 Truck's helmet fronts in photo #59? ???

Looks like medical tape and marker.....cover spot for day, or hasn't changed out his (as they say in Boston) "Device" yet.

Boston front pieces are like the old style (pre-1960s) FDNY fronts.
