On January 16-17, 1983 a 2-alarm fire destroyed the quarters of the Boston Sparks Association on Fourth Street in South Boston. This fire was attributed to the group of arsonists that were attempting to burn down the city. There motives were several, opposition to Prop 2 1/2 which cut companies, the BSA refusing membership to them among others. Fire destroyed the second and third floors where all the artifacts, antiques, memoralibia, and models were kept. This was especially painful for me as I had made several models, including a large English model with escape ladder which took me several months.
But from this incident arose a better Boston Sparks Association, with new quarters @ Congress Street firehouse which became the museum. In addition the "coffee wagon" was improved and enlargened. I am sure "Mack" can add to this. Proud to say I was a member until I moved to Chicago.
