Off-duty NYPD officer killed in Long Island car crash Associated Press Posted:11/15/2010 1:30 PM DIX HILLS, N.Y. -- An off-duty New York City police officer has been killed in a wrong-way accident on a Long Island parkway. Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that 35-year-old Officer Andre Menzies was killed. State Police say Menzies was driving east on the Northern State Parkway a little past midnight today when he was struck by a Chevrolet van traveling in the wrong direction. The van's driver, 50-year-old Michael Bowen of Brooklyn, was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. It was not immediately clear if he was represented by an attorney. Police say they do not know how long Bowen had been traveling the wrong way. He had minor injuries and was treated at a hospital before being arrested. ........................................nothing in Newsday or the NYPD s "thee rant" concerning arrangements as of 1900 hrs Fri. 11/19.......REST IN PEACE to our BROTHER in BLUE...& Prayers for the comfort of his Family. ......Anyone have any further Funeral info?.

From 12-7-10 Newsday......QUOTE....A Memorial Service has been set for NYC Police Officer Andre Menzies Sunday 12-12-10 at Grace Community Church in Amityville where he was a Member. Menzies , 35 a Father of five children from North Babylon was killed Nov. 15 2010 on the Northern State Pkwy by a suspected drunken driver going the wrong way. Since Menzies death there have been two other wrong way crashes on LI which did not result in death. The Church is working to establish the Andre Menzies Fund to help provide financial support to his wife & their five children said Pastor Robert Burgess. The service is scheduled for 4 p.m. UNQUOTE.
