Hi Guys,
I've just spent a week in New York which I really enjoyed apart from the heat, on 6th September I went over to Roosevelt Island and photographed these two units which I then saw responding at 1005edt when I disembarked the tram back in Manhattan. Could someone tell me what the units are used for and possibly what they were responding to please?

Thanks
Steve

The smaller unit is the SOC Compressor truck. The larger one is kind of called the Rescue Services truck. It had been a spare or reserve rescue company but has recently been used as Tactical Support Unit 1.

First one is the SOC compressor truck, basically has a large air compressor (something like 250 CFC) with 2 -100 foot hose reels along with a couple other air outlets to power the concrete drill, pavement breaker and some other demo equipt it carries, it also carries 6 hoses to attach to a con Ed vac truck ( 4 flexible and 2 non flexable (1 short and - long) for trench cave ins and other rescues where material has to be carefully removed from around a victim. They are an automatic on any 10-60, building collapse, trench rescue, train accident etc.
the second vehicle is one of the spare rescue company's, it was donated after 9/11 by General saftey. It's a 2002 Mack MR / General Saftey. It is currently the permanent spare for Tac 1 which was destroyed during hurricane sandy. It is used as a spare for the rescue company's, did a short stint as rescue 6 when rescue 6 was activated before being swapped with the other donated spare the Freightliner/alf. It also has done time as the reserve rescue being fully stocked with Equiptment if an additional rescue was needed for service which is currently being handled by one of the 02 e-one/Salsbury rescues. It was swapped for the alf when it was at rescue 6 and was not as popular as a spare rescue due to the fact it was slightly smaller than the front line rescues and could only carry something like 80-85% of the gear
