Chicago is in the final stages of finalizing a contract with Emergency-One for 90 engines, 50 ladders, and 8 towers. Contract is worth 106 Million dollars over 5 years. City is currentally running 2000's Spartan engines and aerials and 2000's Pierce aerials along with some 1999 engines. CFD has 97 engines, 51 ladder companies and 10 towers so this would be a major overhaul of the fire fighting force.

I have some figures for the upcoming apparatus purchases. 8 Tower Ladders, rear mount model @ 1,039,457, 45 100' aerials @ 849,899, and 90 stainless steel engines @ 578,000.

Does Chicago have a mandated equipment replacement cycle with their union like FDNY does? I'm assuming they don't considering the apparatus being replaced will be 20 years old or more before most of it's replaced. Why has  the apparatus replacement been delayed for so long?

Amazing how much the dollar difference adds to apparatus purchases. We just took delivery of 13 new pumps all at $1.4M each CAD

There is NO set pattern for replacement of apparatus like FDNY has. For a time they had some 80's E-One TL's on the job as spares. Next time you see pixs from Chicago note how many rigs have 3 digit numbers on the doors, those are spares.
