Lieutenant Edward J. Vahling, 32 - Engine 7
Fireman Adolph Schonecker, 35 - Engine 42
Fireman Raymond Norris, 29 - Engine 42
Fireman Peter Buchley, 35 - Engine 7
Firemen Vahling, Schonecker, Norris, and Buchley died of the injuries they sustained, and thirteen other firemen injured while operating at a fire at the Newton Tea & Spice Company, at 2nd Street and Suspension Bridge. Two Explosions blew out a wall of the building and buried the men under tons of debris, while they fought the fire from the bridge.
