A firefighter at TL53, possibly as a protest of the upcoming closure, was arrested for phoning in several 10-92s on the Island.  He faces up to 7 years in prison and dismissal from the FDNY.

I understand this guy was 30 years old and only on the job 6 years. What kind of "hook" did he have to get assigned to a "retirement home" like L53? ???

I doubt it was because he was a resident of City Island. He probally was sent there as a punishment because thats more of a retirement house although its been more of a punishmant house over the years.

You don't need a hook. They have been detailing members  there  (90 days) for years because they can't fill the companies

It's just sad that a young guy effectively terminated his career and put himself into a jam with the law by playing such a silly (and dangerous) game that had no chance of changing anything to begin with.  What poor judgment!

Just hoping he can cop a misdemeanor plea and get out of it without jail time

was listening to the Bronx fire radio that morning. He called them in one right after another. What was he thinking??

Yeah, and the calls were made from his own Body & Fender Shop, go figure? ???

reading the story it makes it seam like he wanted to try and make it seam like the ladder he worked at had alot of calls and so the Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta would change his mind about that company going out of service during the night tour

That's just it, Matty, he wasn't. Had to be at least 10-15 calls put in for City Island that day.

Not true  various batts throughout the city are asked to ha 1 or 2 members per batt to  volunteer to go there.  this young lad was assigned to 10 & 10 out of probie school and transfeered there

Why would anyone volunteer to go there?

Ok the firehouse on the Island is no longer a retirement house, not many senior members go there because FDNY doesnt have many left. Most of the people there are detailed for 1 year from various battalions to keep manpower stable. There are a few regular assigned members but not enough for full rosters. Details are supposed to have at least 5 years of service and remain in City Island for the year. As far as punishment I dont think so, even though it is remote from areas of city the work load is minimal to say the least, so how is that a punishment.

talked to some friends that live on C.I. and say this was always a knucklehead. thats not the way to help things. Now he is probably going to lose a great job.

The fool is lucky no one was injured or killed.  The elast that should happen is that he should be forced to make restitution to the department.  Also, he should forfeit his pension.

He should lose his job and go to prision. They talk about putting lives at risk he put the lives of every firefighter on the engine and truck at risk for doing something he should have known better.People like that have no bussines being on the job volunteer or career.
