The Columbus Division of fire lost three members (not line of duty) in the past week.

Today, January 25, 2023, the Columbus Division of Fire regrets to announce the passing of Battalion Chief Richard Richardson. He dedicated 34 years to the residents of Columbus and for that we will be forever thankful. Battalion Chief Richardson was truly a kind soul and left a positive impression on anyone who met him.
The Division regrets to announce the passing of active member Firefighter Gary D. Childers. Firefighter Childers has been with the Columbus Division of Fire since 2011.
The Columbus Division of Fire regrets to announce the passing of another member. Firefighter Michael Calafatis passed away the night of February 1st. Firefighter Calafatis dedicated 21 years of service to the residents of Columbus. He served the division in many capacities including firefighter, paramedic, bomb squad technician and as a tactical medic. He will be greatly missed by the Columbus Division of Fire.

Chief was cancer and both FF Childers and Calafatis were suicide from what I've heard from guys I know on the job down there. May they all rest in peace.
