command post?

There's two or three, the 46 Battalion on Metropolitan Ave, and the 14th Division at Ascan and Queens Blvd.  May be another one with the 51 and 50 Battalion somewhere.  Then there's the main post and muster point at Citi Field.
 
I think there are about 20 predisginated firehouses throughout the city that would e used as Command Post and Staging areas. As Turk said companies would be referred to as FCT (Fire Control teams). Now they may be called Task Forces instead.
 
thanks. And two more questions. 1. What is a rapid response unit? 2. I heard something like E 150 second part, what does that mean?
 
Rapid-Response Vehicle = blanket term for a small, equipped vehicle that can be staffed with 1 or 2 FFs to respond in lieu of a full company.  For today's storm the RRVs are the SOC Support Ladders trucks and the Brush Fire Units.

I think the Command posts are actually firehouses designated throughout the city for staging of extra companies. Then those companies respond as a Task force of 2 and 1 which apparently used to be called Fire Control Teams. FCT 192, FCT 292 etc out of Engine92s qtrs for example.
 
Rapid response vehicles are the SSL second pieces of truck companies. They staffed it with two firefighters. In Queens, 117,121,136,144,150,and 152's second pieces were put to work along with BFU-7 until it broke down. PS, the dispatchers were also ordered to stop asking "Any truck available in Bayside" because it gave the "impression" we didn't know where our companies were.
 
Don't worry about the "impression" it gives - the reality is units may MAKE themselves available PDQ if they know they are needed, so this kind of announcement isn't without utility! How do units know how stretched their resources are?
 
unfortunatly, the public doesn't care about that. They will see it as the dispatcher not know who is where. Some people could/will complain regardless of the true meaning or motive behind it.
 
Pending further review/documentation, any request for a staging area/command post/muster point must be requested by the supervising dispatcher to the on duty chief dispatcher, who will then consult with the on duty deputy director of communications, who will then consult with the command chief on duty.

I suppose deputies and battalion chiefs get trumped by micromanaging blowhards from the 7th floor, who are always looking at the "big picture" instead of those who are in the big picture.
