Description: Garage fire under a 2.5-story dwelling with extension to the house.
1539hrs- 10-75 transmitted, S/C Tankers.
1546hrs- 2nd Alarm
"On Wednesday, July 5, 2023 shortly after 3:30 PM, the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire on Croton Lake Road in southern Cortlandt.
The initial response was a FASTeam and Tanker from Yorktown and a Tanker from Millwood along with our five Companies.
Car 2081 arrived eight minutes after dispatch and gave the “10-75” for a working fire. Engine 118 laid over 500 feet of supply
hose up the driveway leaving room for Tower Ladder 44. Engine 119 and Tankers 10, 14 & 15 were setup to send water to the fire scene.
Croton and Mutual Aid partners made quick work of the fire, located in the garage under the living area, while also rescuing the family’s cats.
While making the initial “push,” members encountered exploding fireworks, including a larger blast that knocked our members down whom had to regroup before continuing their advance.
Due to the sweltering heat (a Heat Index of 91), the fire location in a remote area and concerns of additional fireworks blasts, Command transmitted a 2nd Alarm for additional units.
A total of two firefighters were evaluated by EMS, one of whom was taken to an area hospital for a facial laceration and the other whom declined medical treatment. A neighbor was also evaluated for potential heat exhaustion.
Mutual Aid on scene or covering our district was provided by Bedford Hills, Briarcliff, Buchanan, Continental Village, Millwood, Mohegan, Montrose, Montrose VA, Ossining, Pocantico Hills, Somers, Verplanck and Yorktown. The CFD had 2081, E118, E119, E120, TL44, T10, R18 & U14 on scene with 30 members."
