Are the 4 discharge valves on the rear of the engine used mainly for FDC hookups?
What hose is used for the hookup?
thx

What engines are you talking about? Please provide a picture of the discharges you are talking about also. If you are talking about the FDNY engine companies they don't have four discharges on the rear of the engines (some of the connections are for water intake). There is also no defined discharges to use to connect to the FDC. It depends on the location of the connection and the location of the engine company.

Depends on the engine, the standard engines have one large diameter discharge off the rear that almost always has adapters, 5in to 3.5 to 2.5 to 1.75 hose. They can use any discharge they want for the most part, they generally use two lengths parallel of 3.5in to the fdc's, the high pressure pumpers (I think there is like 6) have (i think ) 4 discharges in the rear I think. they are 3 stage pumps as opposed to the standard 2 stage. One discharge in the rear and one on the officers side pump panel are designated for high pressure, these discharges are painted white. They are used for the fdc's, the high pressure pumpers carry special hose for this purpose that is rated at a higher psi. I think the hose might be red, they carry I think 4 or so lengths and it is either 3 or 3.5in diameter

The Department operates eight 2000 gpm/600 psi high pressure pumpers with three-stage pumps. When using the third stage, pumps are rated at 500 gpm/700 psi and have two three-inch discharges.  High pressure hose butts and fittings are painted white. In 2013 twenty standard 2000 gpm/600 psi two-stage pumpers were designated "high pressure" pumpers and equipped with one or two lengths of three-inch 600 psi rated hose.

I don't want to sound totally out of it (although I am quite often), but what is 'FDC"?

Thanks.
