Is there a reason the Squads are kept to the 1000gpm pump these days when the rest of the fleet is going to 2000gpm? Smaller pump = more internal room for specialized tools?

The squad companies need the body work large enough to carry the tools and equipment they need which is why they are equipped with 1000 gpm pumps.

Curious but do the squads get into pumping situations where a 1000GPM pump is adequate versus the first due engine companies and the need for 2000GPMpumps?

If a squad company is first or second due at a box, they supply the first or second line into the scene of a fire. A 1000 gpm pumper still has enough gusto to provide plenty of water for a hand line.
